Final stages (getting closer)

The students of Foundation Art course of Studio M finished their “Taiko drums” project in time. All the barrels then were taken by their owner to the workshop.

I was very lucky to be invited and get a closer look at the “post production” – skinning the barrels.
The man behind this is Peter – a very interesting englishman, who lived in Japan for many years and now resides in Montpellier, South of France with his family.

Peter was using two types of skin on these barrels : cow skin and bull skin

The whole process of skinning a barrel takes about one week.

These Taiko drums first will be presented on the Open Day at Studio M in Montpellier and then will be shipped to Exeter, England where they will be used in a Japanese festival.
