Matt Stuart and modern Street Photography go hand in hand in my opinion. He is one of my favourite working photographers out there so when Chris suggested to nominate him for our weekly Monday Masters, I had a grin on my face while nodding my head in approval. Moments later I thought – there’s no way I could pick just one favourite image!!
What I love about his work
Clever juxtapositions, sense of humour, irony, perfect timing are all components in Stuart’s photographs. In one of the interviews he mentions that the best compliment he can receive is when people look at his image and accuse him of staging the scene. The captured moment is so unbelievable that makes you wonder – HOW? See his advice below:
Buy a good pair of comfortable shoes, have a camera around your neck at all times, keep your elbows in, be patient, optimistic and don’t forget to smile
In the video below Matt reveals some of his workflow as well as stories behind some of his most iconic images. A must see!
I could have easily picked another 5 but this image amazes me again and again the more I look at it. Matt also explained that he didn’t notice the head in the light at the bottom left corner which makes the photo, it’s a rare gift that you can get after long hours of walking the streets. The more you’re out there, the more chances you to get gifts from life…
